Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 29, 2026. This policy explains what personal data the Raízes website (blograizes.com.br) processes, why, for how long and how you can exercise your rights. It is a courtesy translation; the Portuguese version, written under Brazil’s General Data Protection Law (LGPD, Law No. 13,709/2018), prevails.

1. Who the controller is

The data controller is José Eduardo Figueira Dantas, editor of Raízes. Contact for privacy matters (data protection officer): contato@blograizes.com.br.

2. What data we process and why

  • Newsletter: your email address, to send you new pieces. Legal basis: consent (LGPD, art. 7, I). You can unsubscribe at any time through the link in every email.
  • Comments: name, email, the comment, date and IP address, to publish the comment, prevent spam and reply to you. Legal basis: legitimate interest (art. 7, IX) and, for the IP address, compliance with a legal obligation (art. 7, II, and Brazil’s Internet Civil Framework, art. 15).
  • Contact form: name, email and message, only in order to reply. Legal basis: consent (art. 7, I).
  • Visit statistics: aggregated technical data (pages viewed, country, browser), to understand what is being read. Collected only if you accept statistics cookies (see section 4). Legal basis: consent (art. 7, I).

We do not sell data, we do not build advertising profiles and we do not ask for sensitive data.

3. Whom we share it with

The site is hosted on WordPress.com, by Automattic Inc., which also operates the newsletter (Jetpack), the comments, the anti-spam service (Akismet) and the statistics. These services process data on our behalf and may store it outside Brazil, including in the United States. This international transfer relies on art. 33 of the LGPD. Automattic’s policy: automattic.com/privacy.

The share buttons are simple links, with no scripts or tracking from those networks: nothing is sent to them while you are just reading. Only when you click a button does your browser open the service you chose (X, WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, LinkedIn, your email program or your device’s share feature), carrying the title and address of the piece. From then on, that service’s privacy policy applies.

4. Cookies

Cookies are small files the site stores in your browser. On your first visit, a notice asks whether you accept non-essential cookies. They fall into these categories:

  • Necessary (always active). They make the site work and store your cookie choice for up to 12 months. This also includes those that remember your name and email for comments, only when you tick that option. Legal basis: legitimate interest and your own request (LGPD, art. 7, IX and V).
  • Preferences. The light or dark theme and the text size you choose are stored only in your browser (local storage). They are not cookies, are not sent to anyone and exist only because you clicked the corresponding button.
  • Statistics (only with your consent). Jetpack Stats, from WordPress.com, counts visits and shows which pieces are read, without advertising and without ad profiling. We do not use Google Analytics at present. If we ever do, it will fall into this same category, only with your consent, and this policy will be updated beforehand. Legal basis: consent (LGPD, art. 7, I).

We do not use advertising or marketing cookies. Non-essential cookies are loaded only after you click “Accept” or switch them on under “Preferences.” If you click “Decline,” the site works normally without them.

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time, as easily as you gave it: click Cookie preferences, here or in the footer of any page. You can also delete cookies in your browser settings. If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control” signal, we treat it as a refusal.

5. How long we keep it

Newsletter email: while the subscription is active. Comments: while the piece is published or until you ask for removal. Contact messages: up to 12 months after our reply. Access logs (IP): for the legally required period of 6 months.

6. Your rights

Under art. 18 of the LGPD you may request: confirmation that we process your data, access, correction, anonymization or deletion, portability, information about sharing and withdrawal of consent. Write to contato@blograizes.com.br; we reply within 15 days. You may also file a complaint with Brazil’s National Data Protection Authority (ANPD), at gov.br/anpd.

7. Children and adolescents

The site is not directed at people under 18 and does not knowingly collect data from children (art. 14).

8. Security and changes

We take reasonable security measures, such as HTTPS connections and restricted access to the dashboard. If this policy changes, the date at the top will be updated and significant changes will be announced in the newsletter.
